What We Do
1. Why We Help
At Helping Families, we believe that no one should face terminal illness alone. Our mission is driven by compassion—to bring light, dignity, and meaningful support to families navigating some of life’s most difficult moments.
In the UK, an estimated 100,000 people of working age are living with a terminal illness. Even more concerning, another 100,000 people who could benefit from palliative care die each year without ever receiving it, according to a UK Parliament report. These figures reflect not just medical gaps—but emotional, practical, and financial ones too.
We are here to fill those gaps—with empathy, action, and unwavering support.

2. How We Can Help
At Helping Families, we are dedicated to supporting individuals living with progressive illnesses—such as cancer, arthritis, and dementia—and extending that care to their families and carers.
- We provide practical help and emotional support through:
- Assistance with everyday tasks like shopping, cleaning, and running errands.
- Counselling sessions and peer support groups to ease emotional burdens.
- Targeted financial aid for families who are financially dependent on a loved one facing a serious illness.
Our work primarily focuses on communities in the UK and Pakistan, with the flexibility to support individuals in other countries as well, where our trustees feel support is needed. Everything we do is grounded in our commitment to making a meaningful difference—always within the scope of charitable work as defined by UK law.
3. We Support the Whole Family
When someone is diagnosed with a progressive illness, it affects everyone around them. That’s why at Helping Families, our support extends beyond the individual—we care for the whole circle of love and connection.

01.
Parental Support
Whether you’re a parent facing illness or caring for a child who is unwell, we understand the emotional and practical toll this takes. We offer counselling, check-ins, and help with everyday responsibilities like cleaning, shopping, or just having someone to talk to. Our aim is to lighten the load so you can focus on your family and your well-being.

02.
Siblings
Siblings often feel left out, confused, or burdened by changes at home. We create safe spaces where they can share their feelings, ask questions, and be supported—emotionally and socially. Our team provides gentle guidance to help them adjust, feel included, and continue thriving.

03.
Friends
Friends often want to help but don’t always know how. We support them too—offering resources, guidance, and opportunities to be part of the care journey. We believe friends are an important part of the support network, and we help them stay connected, informed, and emotionally equipped.
